Bringing Optimal Iron Nutrition to Families at Scale through Danone’s IronBiotics

Danone is turning iron science into real-world nutrition solutions that are designed to improve absorption, support healthier development, and make IDA prevention more accessible for families worldwide.

Iron is a difficult nutrient to absorb.

In many cases, absorption is the missing link between intake and impact: only a fraction of the iron we consume is actually absorbed and used by the body. The remainder can disrupt the balance of the gut microbiome, reducing beneficial bacteria and creating conditions where less helpful microbes may thrive.

This makes nutrition one of the most important levers for IDA prevention—but only when diets and products are designed to work with the body’s biology. Effective preventive nutrition must deliver iron in forms that are absorbable, affordable, and culturally relevant to the families who rely on them most. Iron-rich diets provide the foundation of IDA prevention, while iron supplements offer a targeted, scalable response to treat IDA. Nutrition, in this sense, becomes the bridge between screening and action: identifying IDA is only meaningful if families can access iron-rich foods that effectively preserve iron status.

IronBiotics is Danone’s response to that challenge. It is a prebiotic fiber blend in combination with iron and Vitamin C that enhances iron absorption in early life. The combination performs more effectively than its individual components on their own in laboratory testing.

Built on Danone’s long-standing expertise in biotics across dairy and early-life nutrition, IronBiotics has evolved into the core of Danone’s IronUp! platform: a scalable foundation designed to support a family of products focused on improving iron nutrition globally.

Dexolac with IronBiotics launched in India in July 2025, with rollout across additional Danone markets planned through 2026 and into early 2027. The launch is supported by a broad engagement program, including outreach to more than 35,000 healthcare professionals and a multi-channel consumer campaign spanning television in Hindi-speaking regions, front-page print in eight cities, premium out-of-home placements, and digital content in seven local languages—reaching 5.7 million people and generating 37 million impressions.
